Don’t Leave the Background in the Background

Sometimes it might be a challenge to choose a background for your corporate headshots, especially if you’re making the decision for a large group of employees. You know that it cannot be neglected. Questions you may ask yourself could be, “Is this background the right fit for the company?” or “Will everyone be satisfied with my background choice?” I can offer a few tips to streamline your decision process and hopefully relieve your stress. How you choose a background for your company headshots is extremely important to get the best up-to-date photos. First and foremost, you want to have your background chosen before your session even begins, especially if you want to match it with pre-existing photo you have on your website. This is the best and easiest way for us as professionals to accommodate requests while also producing the finest quality picture.

There are two things to think about when finding an appropriate background that suits your company: Look and Feel. Of course, there are many backgrounds to choose from, but you want to make sure the one you choose works for your company’s atmosphere. For example, if you’re a law firm you should choose a conservative background like a simple gradient rather than a burst of color. You’re background (just like all other aspects in your photo) needs to reflect the type of work and atmosphere you provide to you clients. In a different light, if you are a real estate agent, you could go with something a little less neutral if that’s your personality, perhaps like a colored gradient or burst. You could even shoot outside (further addressed in another post). I can tell you all, however, that the grey gradient is the most popular and trending background for business professionals at the moment, followed by solid white, which brings me to my final point.

Your clients need to know you are current and up-to-date, and the background you choose for the company needs to be fused between what is best for your company and what is trending. Do your research, look at your competition, and see what backgrounds other businesses around you are using. Of course, if you’re still having trouble choosing a background just give us a shout and we’ll lend a hand.
